Thief steals items from one store, pawns them off a few stores over

8:30 a.m. 5100 block of State Road 100. Dealing in stolen property: A Palm Coast thief stole 14 video game controllers from a big box store on State Road 100, then pawned them off with a friend at a video game store just a few doors down in the same shopping center. The thefts and the sales to the pawn shop occurred multiple times over the course of a month, according to a Sheriff's Office report. In one case, the controllers were pawned 16 minutes after they were stolen. The alleged 25-year-old thief was visible on the big box store's surveillance system, and he and his 24-year-old friend both used their real names and provided their driver's license numbers when they pawned the stolen goods, which were worth $975 altogether. Deputies arrested them.

Man can't remember which false birthday he gave to deputy

2:05 a.m. 1100 block of Palm Coast Parkway SW. Giving false name while detained: A deputy was patrolling a bank parking lot when he noticed a car go by with a damaged tail light and with its driver not wearing a seat belt. The deputy stopped the car and asked the driver for ID, which he gave. The passenger gave the deputy a name and said he was born Sept. 18, 1986. The deputy ran that name and birthday through a database to check for drivers license records and got none, so he went back to the passenger and asked him again. This time, the passenger said he was from Georgia, so the deputy checked the Georgia database. Still, no records. The deputy returned to the man and asked him again. This time, the man said he was born a year later — Sept. 18, 1987. Then he corrected himself and said Sept. 18, 1988. The deputy asked the man what the middle initial he'd provided — an "H" — stood for, and the man couldn't answer. When the deputy asked him again and gave the example of "Henry," the man said that yes, his middle name was Henry. The deputy arrested him for giving a false name while detained, and the man then gave his real name — which was completely different — and said he was born in 1987 and had lied about his name and birthday because he was on probation. He lived in Ormond Beach. Deputies found prescription drugs and cocaine paraphernalia on the man after placing him in a patrol car.
