In response to the expected temperature drop Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20, community organizations are mobilizing to provide warm, secure shelters during those evenings. Individuals whose homes lack sufficient heating or are without housing are urged to take shelter.

On the county's west side, The Neighborhood Center's The Bridge, located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave., DeLand, will accept guests between 6 and 8 p.m. For additional details, individuals can call 386-734-8120 ext. 601.

Residents on the county's east side can obtain shelter coordinated by Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) in partnership with churches. To arrange for sheltering, contact HUM at 386-317-5886.

Individuals requiring transportation assistance to these shelters should contact the organization on their side of the county for arrangements. Additional information about cold weather safety is available at www.volusia.org/coldweather.
