Florida Power & Light Company recently awarded $10,500 to FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools as part of its statewide EmPOWERing STEM Educators Program. The program’s goal is to increase teacher knowledge of effective math and science instructional practices that align with Florida Standards through peer-to-peer learning of best practices.

The funding will support FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools’ goal to provide effective, integrated lesson plans that teachers can use in the classroom on different STEM principles.

“High-quality education is the foundation for our students' dreams, and equipping teachers with the tools to succeed is the rocket fuel that propels those dreams to new heights,” said Shimene Shepard, executive director of FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools. “Through the funding of this program, we are grateful to be able to help inspire the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers and visionaries.”
