Halifax Humane Society CEO Adam Leath is stepping down and a nationwide search for a new CEO will be conducted, the animal shelter announced on Friday, Jan. 19.

"The board of directors expresses its sincere gratitude to Mr. Leath for his valuable contributions, tireless efforts, and positive impact on Halifax Humane Society," a press release stated. "Under his guidance, the organization has reached new heights in its mission to provide compassionate care for animals in need. Halifax Humane Society acknowledges Mr. Leath's decision to step down and wishes him success in all his future endeavors."

HHS said in its press release that Leath's leadership during his time as CEO — about nine months — contributed to the success and growth of the organization.
