Here are some of the best trails to explore around Lake Tahoe. Bring your family or a friend, even head out for a solo mission on a variety of hiking trails Lake Tahoe has to offer. Besides conditions and weather, be prepared and make sure you have the appropriate gear before embarking on any hike. Rubicon Trail
This trail offers stunning views of the lake, passing through forests, rocky coves, and even a historic mansion. It’s about 10 miles round trip and is rated as moderately difficult.
Eagle Falls Trail
This short but rewarding hike takes you to stunning Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake is without a doubt a crowd favorite. The trailhead is on the west side of the lake and offers great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Indeed if you plan on going during the summer, makes sure to head out early as the parking can fill quickly.
Mount Tallac Trail
For more experienced hikers, this trail leads to the summit of Mount Tallac, providing panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area. It’s a challenging hike of about 10 miles round trip with a significant elevation gain. Though the trail is long, there are quite a few scenic pit stops you can make along the way to make the trip more enjoyable.
Cascade Falls Trail
A family-friendly hike near Emerald Bay that takes you to Cascade Falls, a beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush vegetation. The hike is relatively short and easy, making it suitable for hikers of all ages. Differing from some longer hikes on this list, this is a great quick hiking trail to embark on that still offers rewarding views.
Desolation Wilderness Trails

DL Bliss State Park
This park has several trails that provide stunning views of the lake and access to secluded beaches. The Balancing Rock Nature Trail and the Lighthouse Trail are particularly scenic options.
Tahoe Rim Trail
The Tahoe Rim Trail is a legendary long-distance trail that circumnavigates Lake Tahoe. This trail covers nearly 165 miles in total. Hikers can choose shorter segments or embark on a multi-day backpacking adventure. The trail offers diverse terrain and fantastic views.
Meeks Bay Trail
This relatively easy trail takes you through a forested area to a beautiful beach at Meeks Bay. It’s a great option for a relaxing day hike and enjoying the shoreline. Another great option is to check out Meeks Bay Beach before or after your hike to relax and play in the water!
Spooner Lake Trail
Located on the eastern side of the lake, this easy loop trail circles Spooner Lake and offers serene forest and lake views. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll.
